Hunter Peak (8,258') is at the far left. It appears taller than Guadlupe Peak (8,729') but it isn't. I have hiked the trail to the top of Guadalupe Peak. I have also hiked the trail called The Bowl which goes near the summit of Hunter Peak. It is hard to believe from this vantage point but the bowl is covered with a forest of pine and fir trees. Both hikes are labeled "strenuous" which I thought an understatement. The Peak hike is 8.4 miles roundtrip and rises 3,000 feet in elevation. The Bowl hike is 9.1 miles. Both trails are loaded with steep switch backs. For me each hike was an 8 hour endeavor.
